William “Nephibis” Young was born in Baltimore, MD. He was constantly bullied growing up and never fit in, so he kept to himself and wrote poetry. Dealing with abuse made it difficult for him to trust and get close to people. He ended up suffering from depression, which over time evolved into more issues with his mental health.
On New Year of 2005, William's cousins on the West Coast, convinced him to participate in the “New Year spit.” This led to him falling in love with rapping due to the way it allowed him to express himself. Later, William met a Crip named Pain, who taught him about the history of gangs and encouraged him to read about Malcolm X and The Black Panthers. This inspired him to make music that was about more than just his hatred for being hurt and he desired to make music that could reach people who felt the same way he did.
Eventually William’s music caught the ears of a Baltimore rapper by the name of Shy Ladyheroine, who encouraged him to start performing on stage and expose his music to more people. Later, under the guidance of Kieshawn Richardson, he was able to release his first single Bumpin’ My Music as Noble R. His music caught the Attention of Catherine Trotter, who invited him to the Speak Life Open Mic event, which encourages artists to speak positivity through through art and to make a positive impact on the youth.
After dealing with a life-changing event William stopped rapping for several years until releasing his album "Lyrical Painting" in 2018 as the artist Nephibis. Nephibis represents the rebirth of Noble with an embrace to both his "light" and "dark" sides.
